Why Is It Called 'Dokhan Mulgwang'? — The Story of a German–Korean Collaboration
It doesn't mean "harsh" or "intense," even though that's what the word sounds like in Korean. "Dok" for Germany, "Han" for Korea — the name marks a mulgwang injection developed by a Korean doctor using pure German botulinum toxin, XEOMIN, together with Belotero Soft filler.
The Origin — The Reteenage Method
In 2009, Kim Jongseo Plastic Surgery developed the Reteenage Method, a technique for injecting stabilized hyaluronic acid filler into the dermis using a mesotherapy approach. As this method became known through seminars and papers, it saw wide adoption, and Dokhan Mulgwang was developed as its second-generation successor, refined for more stable delivery. The related injection technique is registered under Korean Patent No. 10-1790405.
Why XEOMIN?
XEOMIN is a product formulated to reduce the complexing proteins (roughly 750kDa) that play no role in treatment effect, using only the pure toxin molecule (150kDa). It is understood to lower the risk of resistance (antibody formation) with repeated treatment, and Dr. Frevert, the German scientist behind XEOMIN's development, personally visited Kim Jongseo Plastic Surgery in 2014.
Who Is It For?
This treatment targets improvement in pore appearance, fine lines, and skin texture. Trying to smooth fine lines with filler alone can require excessive volume, resulting in an unnatural look, so the key is to separate volume replenishment from texture improvement. Effects and duration vary depending on individual skin condition.
